Aparthotel
An aparthotel in Dubai makes sense for a stay of a week or more, for a family that wants a kitchen and a second room, or for a work trip that turns into a month. This page lists 63 Dubai aparthotels and hotel residences, averaging 8.51 out of 10 across 127,834 guest reviews. Deira and Bur Dubai have 11 each, Al Barsha 9 and Downtown 7. For a three-night city break with dinners out, I would take a regular hotel; the apartment format earns its place once you start shopping at a supermarket. On the Creek side, Hyatt Regency Creek Heights Residences (8.9 over 5,247 reviews) is the one I would look at first. It stands in Dubai Healthcare City, offers studios up to three-bedroom apartments with fitted kitchens, and the Dubai Healthcare City metro station on the Green Line is a short walk away. Across the water in Deira, Hilton Dubai Creek Hotel & Residences (8.7) and Marriott Executive Apartments Dubai Creek (8.2) give the same format on the older side of the city. The most-reviewed address on the page is Pullman Dubai Jumeirah Lakes Towers, Hotel & Residence, at 9.4 over 10,661 reviews. In JLT, Sobha Realty metro station on the Red Line is about a six-minute walk, so the beach at JBR and Downtown are reachable without a car. In Dubai Marina, Regency Luxury Suites scores 9.0 over 6,304 reviews; Sofitel Dubai Jumeirah Beach (9.2), Mövenpick Hotel Jumeirah Beach (9.1) and InterContinental Dubai Marina (9.1) complete the four Marina addresses, the first two at JBR. Al Barsha is the practical choice rather than the scenic one. Flora Al Barsha Hotel At The Mall (8.4 over 6,449 reviews) and MENA ApartHotel Albarsha At The Mall (8.1) sit by Mall of the Emirates, with its metro station on the Red Line and a supermarket inside the mall. The district also has the three City Stay buildings, rated 7.2 to 7.7, among the lowest on the page. I would not stay in Al Barsha for views or for the beach, which is a taxi ride away. For a long family stay by the sea, Palm Jumeirah is the obvious alternative, with four addresses on this page. Adagio Premium The Palm (8.7 over 2,588 reviews), at Palm West Beach, has 163 units, 94 studios and 69 flats, each with a kitchen. Cheval Maison, The Palm (9.1) is the best rated of the four. The metro does not reach the Palm, so plan on taxis or the Palm Monorail, whose Al Ittihad Park station links to the Golden Mile Galleria. Downtown mixes two very different things. Vida Downtown Residences (8.8) is a hotel-run residence. Next to it, several places on this page are single apartments in residential towers, some with only a few dozen reviews, such as a one-bedroom with a Burj Khalifa view from the pool, with 34. They can be good, but there is no reception desk in the usual sense, so check who hands over the keys and at what time before you land late at DXB. A few practical points matter more for an apartment than for a hotel room. In Deira, VIP Residence is reserved exclusively for women, which suits solo female travellers on longer stays. The Tourism Dirham Fee is charged only for the first 30 consecutive nights of a stay, a real difference for anyone booking a month. From June to September, when the midday heat keeps everyone indoors, recent reviews about the air conditioning tell you more than the pool photos.
Beachfront
In Dubai, a beachfront hotel sits on one of five very different waterfronts: JBR, the trunk of Palm Jumeirah, Bluewaters Island, Umm Suqeim on the Jumeira coast, or the man-made lagoon at Dubai Creek Harbour. Two stays on this page are nowhere near the sand: TRYP by Wyndham Dubai is in Barsha Heights and runs a shuttle to the beach, a 10 to 15 minute drive, and Fleur Star Apartments is in Jumeirah Village Circle, inland. I would not book either for the beach. JBR is the beachfront I would pick if you want to walk everywhere. Rixos Premium Dubai JBR has a private beach area with loungers on the JBR sand, and Sofitel Dubai Jumeirah Beach stands on The Walk, steps from The Beach mall, with beach loungers for guests. The public JBR beach in front is free, with showers and lifeguards, and the Dubai Tram stops at the JBR stations behind it. The catch is the crowd: the sand and The Walk fill up at weekends, now Saturday and Sunday. On Palm Jumeirah, Palm West Beach looks across the water at the Dubai Marina towers. NH Collection Dubai The Palm opens straight onto it, and voco Dubai The Palm and Adagio Premium The Palm have private stretches there. Andaz Dubai The Palm stands on the trunk opposite Palm Jumeirah Mall, with its own private beach, and the Andaz Family Suites sit on the sand next door. There is no metro on the Palm: the monorail's Palm Jumeirah Mall station is the closest stop for these hotels, and Gateway station links to the tram. Banyan Tree Dubai at Bluewaters has the longest private beach here, about 500 metres of sand on the Gulf, and it looks back at JBR from its island; I would choose it for a couple who want a resort without crowds. Vida Creek Beach, at Dubai Creek Harbour, has no sea: its beach is on a man-made lagoon, about 15 minutes from Dubai International Airport, which makes it a good last night before a flight. Beach Walk Boutique Jumeirah, in Umm Suqeim, is about a two-minute walk from the public Jumeira beach. Beachfront here can mean a private beach or a public one in front of the hotel. A private beach means loungers and towels kept for guests; a public beach in front of the hotel, as at JBR or Umm Suqeim, means free sand you share with everyone. In July and August, highs at Dubai airport average about 42°C and the beach is a before-9am or after-6pm affair; from December to February they average 24 to 27°C and the beach works all day. Kite Beach, in Umm Suqeim next to the Jumeirah Fish Market, is the free alternative. I would skip these hotels for a stay centred on Downtown.
